Milligan, Max - Play Beck

A must for Beck fans!
This is one of my favourites of Max Milligan's "Play" series, giving a true insight into the beautiful melodic tones of Jeff Beck's guitar work. Max explains in much detail the various techniques used by Beck, including his use of harmonics, string bends, volume swells and whammy bar technique.

This DVD is a must for all aspiring "Beck" style guitarists.

Doc McStuffins: Friendship Is The Best Medicine (DVD + Digital Copy)

Episodes
My kids love Doc McStuffins, but I think Amazon could do a better job with their product description on this one. The episodes on this disc are:

1. Engine Nine, Feelin' Fine/The Right Stuff
2. Caught Blue Handed/To Squeak, Or Not To Squeak
3. Ben/Anna Split!/That's Just Claw-ful
4. The Rip Heard Round the World/Walkie-Talkie Time
5. Dark Knight/Hallie Gets an Earful

My daughter loooooooooves this
This was immediate love for my 4 year old. She is obsessed with the show, I have never seen her like this before !

A Great children show
My daughter just loves this show. She knows the characters by name. She's so happy when it's on. I'm so happy there releasing it on DVD. I recommend to anyone with small children.

Dances & Waves: Schoenbrunn 2012 Night Concert

Well Worth 91 Minutes of Your Time
This is one of the better DVDs I have purchased recently. Gustavo Dudamel conducts the Vienna Phil with zest and no score, his usual practice. The dance sequences are well produced with the La Mer ballet being sensational. Following my first viewing, I have played the disc as I would a CD to continue enjoying the creative combination of musical selections. I highly recommend this DVD.

Only good
I just filed this dvd altogether with the others I will watch occasionally.
The concert is well recorded, but it is just another concert.
-- -- --
This is a second opinion from viewing (re-re-viewing) the concert again.

I would rate it 2,3 stars...
Really not impressive.
Goes to the 3rd shelf with the others I'll watch ocasionally.

And I have quite a few from Gergiev - all of the top shelf.

Summer night
It makes you really want to be there. Video captures both the details and the big picture of that evening.

Season 4 Reunion Special Part Two [HD]

A guilty pleasure!
Not for nothing, I love this show!

Jerseylicious allows a peek into the lives of real people that work in beauty salons in New Jersey. And what an entertaining peek it is!

We get to see the battles between the owners of several salons, their store managers, but best of all the hairstylists and make-up artists. We watch as they create their magic with hair and make-up and, to their credit, they all seem to genuinely care about their customers and helping people feel good about themselves through beauty. But the behind the scenes shots show how they treat each other and give glimpses into their personal lives.

I've been watching the show since the beginning and what started with one salon (the Gatsby) has slowly evolved to follow other salons as well (The Glam Factory and Anthony Roberts Salon).

At the heart of this show is a battle that depicts good vs. evil (in my humble opinion) when charming make-up artist Olivia takes on bullying...

Fun to watch
As I said before in reviewing Jerseylicious, you can really learn on how to and how not to handle certain situations. Sometimes I laugh and sometimes I just shake my head.

Very good kids show.
My son loves this show. It has a train. It has dinosaurs. Even the theme song is catchy. I even like watching it, too.

Great Cartoon
This is a very informative, kind and entertaining cartoon, my grandson and I enjoy watching it together on a daily basis.

Love the Dinosaur Train
This is a great series, I give 5 stars to all of them. Very educational, my 4-year-old now wants to be a paleontologist!

Review of Crisis at the Castle
I enjoyed these 3 different stories that gives you a different slant on life in a castle. Maybe its not all the "life of roses" one would think. Unless you have unlimited funds, you must always be chasing that dollar (or should I say euro) to maintain your inheritance. A million dollar roof is no joke. Opening up your home to tourists and weddings, etc. must be a challenge as you will see in these 3 documentaries.

a good way to watch all 3 castle stories
A close look at three British castles that are at a deciding point. Can they be saved and kept in the family? Can business/event uses provide adequate income to meet the rinsing costs of upkeep? The families living in the structures bear their stories and lives to show the world that living in a crumbling castle is not all it's cracked-up to be. It's presented almost like unique form of reality TV. Middle-class aristocratic owners are shown in a new form of "Extreme Makeover." How to Avoid Castle Bankruptcy 101. There is an older TV series that fictionally presented something similar: "Monarch of the Glen" (recommended).

SUBTITLES available for all 3 different castle episodes.
1. Sudley Castle
120,000 annual visitors dropped to 50,000 as the castle was closed, only a visitor's center open. The family needs income to survive, and with two contemporary generations living under one (large) roof there is tension. Lady Ashcombe (a former Kentuckian) refuses to honor...

27. Batista -...

It's supposed to be about finishings, not superstars.
Once again WWE offers something that seems to be original and we find the same ol' situation.
When I was a kid the first thing that caught my attention about wrestling was the finishing moves, I thought these were like real-life fatalities or something like that so when this Blu-ray/DVD came out I couln't expect anything to get it. If you're a really WWE or wrestling fan you'll realize that WWE focuses its lights only on the top superstar always, but let me give you a few examples:
What difference does it make the 'Scorpion Death Lock'(Sting) or the 'Sharpshooter'(Bret Hart)?
The answer is in fact the superstar because the finisher is exactly the same. Or what about the '5-Star Frog Splash'(RVD) with the 'Frog Splash'(Eddie Guerrero)? That's right, there ain't no difference.
Another example that supports my review, Shawn Michael has been one of the best WWE superstars of all the time but I don't think his 'Sweet Chin Music' should be the #6 in the list because...

A surprisingly good list, although not perfect...
Any brand-published Top 50 list is bound to have its share of opinionated discussion. I was moderately surprised at who was and wasn't on the Top 50 Greatest Wrestlers video, but with something that should be far less subjective than popularity contest as a 50 Greatest Finishing Moves, I was skeptical going in to this one. Main things I were worried about was WWE just putting over current stars with slight homage to older wrestlers, bad or non-informative interviews, and seemingly arbitrary choices on what was chosen and who went where. On the first point, all fears were unfounded. On the second, interviews varied with Mick Foley and C.M. Punk giving the most real input into things (with occasionally interesting additions from Drew McIntyre), but with Dusty Rhodes giving progressively more nonsensical commentary, and Jim Ross and Brodus Clay giving the type of commentary that deserves a Nic Cage "You Don't Say?" meme almost each time. And on the last point, while I don't disagree...

Under Flaming Winter Skies

A reason to care again
I had lost hope after Stratovarius' break about 10 years ago. Absolutely nothing they did interested me until the last album, the second to feature "savior" Matias Kupiainen on guitar.
This DVD might be a way of saying farewell to the drummer, but I take it as a reason to start caring about Strato again. They feel and sound like a band that's going somewhere. Great stage presence, great playing, good vibe. Timo's voice is suffering greatly, however, and I think a part of his register has disappeared, but his heart is still there.
The main feature sounds extremely good, with loud guitars (hear that, Tony Kakko ;)), audible bass and good sounding drums. Jen shines as always on the keys. The band just feels alive. It's true that the vocals are not up front, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I could do without some of the songs on the setlist, especially the stuff from the last 10 years, but the delivery and energy are hard to argue with. I guess they wanted to document...

Sound, performance, filming and material is excellent to me.
Caught this video/dvd on youtube and bought it because of it.

Sound, performance, filming and material is excellent to me.

To me the vocalist sounded fine. Reminds me of Geddy Lee of Rush who does not hit the high notes anymore, but still sounds fine in a lower register. I've heard far worse such as Steve Walsh of Kansas and Geoff Tate of Queensryche whose best days seem behind them.

My only quibble is the bassist using Jazz Bass pickups which may sound fine on the solo, but are very thin sounding when playing with the band.

Finally, I keep hearing how power metal is expiring. What do you expect from something that started in the 1990's and was an attempt to play and redefine classic metal of the 1970's and 1980's.

The strength of power metal is its musicianship and compositional songwriting.

No reason why this can not be applied to melodic metal or even progressive rock.

Just so long as bands like...

Sound is bad
I looked forward to this concert. But who this is messed up, they should shoot him. Singing is not just hear, totally lost in other music. Poor recording. It's not worth your attention.

HBO's Atlantic City Hit Raises The Drama, Tension, And Betrayal In A Season That Redefines Major Characters And Relationships
Certainly one of the most admired shows on the 2010 television schedule, HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" boasted the year's most impressive pedigree with Martin Scorsese taking a production credit and even directing the pilot episode (for which he won an Emmy). This brain child of Terrence Winter, a primary creative force and writer for "The Sopranos," adapted the Nelson Johnson non-fiction work chronicling the sordid history of Atlantic City into a masterful blend of fact and fantasy. Embraced by mainstream critics and viewers alike, "Boardwalk Empire" picked up a Golden Globe for Best Dramatic Program and acting honors for lead Steve Buscemi at both the Globes and the SAG awards for its debut season. And yet, if I'm being completely honest, while I issued my highest recommendation for the artistry of Season One--it always connected more with my intellectual side, but never quite my heart. WOW!
So, I pre-ordered this, with the rest of my TV, months ago. No clue that this was going to be as big a set as this was. The series and season are good, they're excellent, but I'll let others describe those. Me? I'm going to focus on the actual product here instead.

This box comes with 3 Blu-Ray discs, packaged by themselves. At the price paid for it, you'd think that would be all you get, considering it's a pretty standard price. HBO goes the extra mile though, by far. This set ALSO comes with (separately packaged) 2 double sided DVD's with all 12 episodes.. But wait, THERE'S MORE!!! HBO also throws in one code that allows you to download ALL episodes, PLUS 3 special features, ALL in HD off of iTunes.

I've got, in my collection, probably 30, 40 television shows, most with multiple seasons. NONE of them have given out this much for this little. I think the closest I've seen was Chuck and Grimm with Ultraviolet digital copies (which aren't horrible, but they're not...

Guilty Pleasures

Not about Harlequins or Romance
This DVD was not about Romance Novels it was more about sex and sex scenes in romance novels. It seemed a bit cynical for what was supposed to be a story on the "happily-ever-after" Harlequin Romance. I was suprised PBS had done this story. I can't recommend it.

Guilty Pleasures
This PBS documentary gives an inside look into the the Harlequin novel from the perspective of the female reader, the male writer, and a male cover model. Hiroko is a housewife from Japan who dreams of being swept off her feet by the man of her dreams (a cross between David Beckham and George Harrison). Shumita is an Indian woman who has been left by her husband five years earlier for another woman. Shumita reads her novels while hoping that her husband will one day return. Shirley is a British mother of three who is looking for more spice to her life and her marriage. Each of the three women enjoy reading Harlequin (also known as Mills & Boon) for their own reason, but for each the books fill a need in their lives. Gill Sanderson (whose real name is Roger) writes medical romance novels from his small trailer in England. Gill's passion for his writing and pride in knowing that his books are enjoyed by readers around the world is clear throughout the documentary. I found 47 of Gill's...

Freezing: Complete Series (Limited Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Not for kids.
The show 'Freezing' is your typical science fiction anime with a splash of harem thrown in. The story is basically this: humanity is at war with extra-dimensional beings called NOVA. The world has no way of fighting them except with teenage girls (naturally). It focuses on Aoi Kazuya who transfers to a school called West Genetics Academy. Genetics Academy is basically a school for genetically enhanced girls called Pandoras & male students with an ability dubbed "Freezing" which can limit/restrict movement in the area they cast it on. Pandoras & their male partners, who are called "Limiters", are the only known way to combat the NOVA.

The story starts out with Aoi being shown around his new school during an annual event that consists of each & every Pandora (in their year) going at war with each other (almost killing each other) throughout the entire school. The main heroine, Satellizer (who is known as the Untouchable Queen & ranked 1 of her entire class), & another main...

Enjoyable Fan Service
This is a review of the blu-ray edition. First off, it is the uncensored version, so if you don't like bare breasts, look elsewhere. It is somewhat on the same level as the first season of Queen's Blade. I am a firm believer that even ecchi anime need a story line that holds together (as opposed to something like, say Master of Martial Hearts, which doesn't). The basic story line is that aliens are attacking, the only ones who can defend earth are girls with attack powers. Each girl has a guy with protection power(the Freezing in the title), which makes it different from other harems, where one guy attracts all the girls.

The heroine has awesome attack power, but due to a horrible upbringing (revealed later in the series), can't stand to be touched. The hero, of course is the only one that can touch her, much to her consternation. The girls in the academy spend most of the time fighting each other, but all pull together in the end when the aliens attack again. Lots of...

They Carry The Hopes And Dreams Of their Loved Ones
In the mid 2000's the Earth has been invaded by aliens called the Nova. Kazuya Aoi is the little brother of a war hero. His sister died fighting for the hopes and dreams of every person on Earth. Kazuya enters a school that trains young women and men to fight the Nova. He meets a girl named Satellizer el Bridgette. She has the same stigmata mark on her back as Kazuya's late sister. Underneath her cool exterior lies a gentle and shy side that she will only show to Kazuya. The 2 of them become partners and continue to fight to save the future.

This anime has a very generic story line. A boy meets a girl and they fight to save the world. The Nova are similar the to the Dolems in RahXephon, so there pretty cool looking. This series reminds me a lot of the Sekirei anime. Personally I liked Sekirei better. This anime also has a lot of fighting and nudity. So it's not for younger viewers. It is a very serious story. There is very little comedy if any at all. The animation,...

Gustav Mahler: Origins [HD]

Outstanding Introduction to the Musical Roots of Gustav Mahler
Michael Tilson Thomas does a thoroughly credible and engaging job of introducing the diverse musical and cultural influences that went into the early music of Gustav Mahler with special focus on his first symphony. He becomes our travel guide to the places where Mahler grew up, the lives of his parents, and the places he would visit to discover sources of inspiration. As someone who has listened to his first symphony for well over 45 years, even I learned a fair amount about this work. Strongly recommended.

Dumber Dolls

Deliciously Bent
This is my current favorite DVD series. It's so absurd a premise and so beyond the pale of most cartoon series out there these days, that it has infinite appeal to both my sixteen year old son and to me. Our dynamic trio and their next door Jersey neighbor, the tank top wearing Carl, are the funniest toon characters in Television land. That's saying a lot as television is currently witnessing a true renaissance of cartoon humor.

The creators are the same crew that brought us the equally silly, but cutting edge SPACEGHOST COAST TO COAST. The same sort of hip, off colour humor that informed that show is at play here, only more so. My favorite segment involves a manic depressive, deadbeat, suicidal doll who has a negative, lifeforce-draining impact on all who come in contact with him. Other highlights include a pair of aliens who look as if they've escaped from some crude '70s Atari game. The punk talking little alien, err, is particularly amusing.

Of the three main characters, my...

A Cartoon Treat...
No description of any kind would make someone take this show seriously, for it sounds infinitely silly and stupid, but in truth, it just works. "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" is, without a doubt, the funniest and most creative show on Cartoon Network`s "Adult Swim" cartooning block (a series of cartoon shows made for teenagers and adults that can take more risks than normal programming). It follows the misadventures of 3 six-foot-tall living foods: Master Shake, the leader of the Aqua Teens and a milkshake, Frylock, the rational one and a bunch of french fries, and Meatwad, a very... unintelligent wad of meat and the object of many a prank set up by Master Shake. They live next to Karl, an overweight man reliving the 80s who hates it when they use his pool. When they are not getting into situations on their own, they are battling anything out-of-the-ordinary, from a living, suicidal and depressed toy of Meatwads, to a juvenile rapper named "MC Pee Pants" to a pair of 2D aliens known as the...

You've tamed him with your greasy dance of joy
Aqua Teen Hunger Force ('ATHF') is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Starring late on night on the Cartoon Network's 'Adult Swim', ATHF centers around a narcissistic milkshake, Master Shake, a genius batch of frenchfries with super powers, Frylock, and a sizzling ball of hamburger meat, Meatwad. The three form a detective agency/squad (The Aqua Teen Hunger Force, natch) and noisily "solve" mysterious events, much to the continued annoyance of their pot-bellied and 'self-employed' neighbor Carl. Sound bizarre? You have no idea. ATHF is some sort of sick, demented combination of Super Friends, South Park, and all those unintentionally creepy cartoons from the early 80s like The Snorks. Read: it rocks.

This series is one of the most consistently entertaining, funny, and quotable I've ever seen. Each episode starts with some sort of bizarre creation or device either escaping from or otherwise being generated at the lab of Dr. Wierd in his castle on the New Jersey shore...

From Russia with Stud

Long Time Fan
I love the voice that UH brings to the show. Some of the dialog reminds me of people I grew up around.

Funniest Cartoon on Television
If you can tolerate the crude nature of the humor, you will find one of the most creative shows on television. You have to pay attention though, 'cause the humor is fast paced, and continuous. This is the reason you need to purchase the shows yourself, in that you will find new reasons to laugh every time you watch it!!
Give it a try.....

Great Show, not the best season
The show is absolutely great, but this isn't the best season. I'm not certain if more episodes will come out or if there will be another season. Also took awhile for Amazon to get the rest of the season up for download.

WWE: The 50 Greatest Finishing Moves in WWE History

50 Greatest Finishing Moves in WWE History
WWE 50 Greatest Finishing Moves is definitely a MUST BUY, MUST SEE!!! It was my husband's 30th birthday gift and he absolutely loves it. What we like the most were the #1 Finishing Move and the historical matches on the other discs--awesome blasts from the pasts. Thank you WWE!!!

WWF and WWE fans may like this DvD
I ditto what Wrestle Dude said, the crippler crossface should be on this dvd, but you true fans know why it isnt. There is a good mix of old moves so WWE does a good job of paying homage to their roots. Then of course there is a whole buffet for the WWe universers out there. This isnt a dvd that you will watch over and over again but still pretty good. I loved seeing the Brett Hart v Mr Bob Backlund match which i havent seen in years. Good stuff, although they did leave off The Stieners and the British Bulldogs finishers.

WWE Kind Of Reaching With This One
In recent years, the WWE has found a nice little niche market in releasing these "countdown" lists, capitalizing on both current fandom and nostalgia alike. This "Finishing Moves" list, however, just fails to hold viewer interest for the full runtime.

The problem here is two-fold:

First, a listing of finishing holds just isn't dramatic enough to form an entire show out of. With all the other little WWE collections that have come out before this one, there is no fresh material here (just a different grouping of the same information).

The other problem is that many of the commentators talk about the finishing moves/holds as if they are actually real wrestling holds. I understand the concept of kayfabe, to be sure, but come on! I think we are all past the point of analyzing the "physical purpose" of the hold and instead just enjoy the drama of the whole spectacle.

Thus, "Finishing Moves" is a WWE production that will not stay in my collection...

Hm. Hm, hm.

A DVD that's not the complete first season, send it to the moon.

Slacker Nirvana - But Not The Whole Season!
EDIT TO ADD: Regular Show: Season 1 & Season 2 are now available as a combined set!

Now here's my review...

Is this a very cool cartoon?

Yes.

Does it kind of suck that this DVD release doesn't contain the whole season?

Also yes.

I'm not going to try to tell you whether you should or shouldn't buy this release. Obviously you stand where you stand on that kind of thing. What I am going to say is that this is a seriously good cartoon. Although nominally a kid's show, it's every bit as smart as most cartoons aimed solely at adults. While barely a year old as of the time of writing, it's already quite clear that it's well on its way to becoming a cult classic.

The ironically named "Regular Show" deals with the adventures of two young adult slackers whose main aim in life seems to be coasting through their jobs as park groundskeepers while...

10-Film Horror Cult Classics Collection

A mixed bag
Oh, where to begin? The price is certainly right on this collection, and if you're a fan of old horror films, or are just looking for some oddities, it's money well spent. That being said, caveat emptor. I think the folks who compiled this two-disc set were being overly generous when they declared these films "Cult Classics." What you actually have here are some semi-decent prints of a handful of great movies and a few giant turds that will leave you scratching your head. Nine of the ten films presented here are in black-and-white, so if you're color-biased be forewarned.

The good? House on Haunted Hill, The Last Man on Earth, Night of the Living Dead, Little Shop of Horrors, Carnival of Souls, and White Zombie. All had decent prints, although some were a little scratchy. Sound was decent in most cases, only dipping low on occasion without ever actually cutting out, and there was no tinniness or scratching that stood out to me. These are all genuinely classic films...

Shangri-La: Part 1 (Limited Edition)

Looks great, but kinda thin plot
This anime looks awesome. It's the story of an 18 year old girl named Kuniko Hojo. She lives in a devastated world that is ruled by a ruthless government. The Atlas government makes sure there is a huge difference between the ruling class and the regular citizens. This makes rising against them difficult. They control the economy and make living a comfortable life nigh impossible. Kuniko and her friends are part of a resistance group that fights to give people a chance to live for themselves.

The animation is amazing, the voice acting and soundtrack are also top notch. The thing that kept me from getting engrossed by this show was the lack of character development. There are a few interesting characters. They have colorful attitudes and good dialogue, but they aren't developed in depth. This makes it hard to get into the story. This is only the 1st part of the story, so there is more time to rectify the issues I have with this anime. It's clear to see that the real action...

5 star series, but what's so special about this limited edition???
I first watched this series for free on Crunchyroll (a free or premium for pay streaming anime site). They have since removed the series due to Funimation's picking up the license. Note: the LIMITED EDITION is the art box. That's it. It is a 12 episode, 2 disc set - that is the first 12 episodes of the 24 episode series. Perhaps LIMITED refers to the limited amount of special features! Also, the first half 'limited edition' sells for $10 more MSRP than the second half of the series. So $10 for a cardboard art box.

I had always wondered why a top class Gonzo series had not been picked up until this time. But now seeing the staggering $60 price point for 12 episodes borders on criminal. The series is a solid 5, but Funimation's decision to package a 2009 series for this price is unethical at best. I felt this would have better been the entire series for $60 instead of the first half. Shame on you Funimation. Perhaps in a year or two it will appear in their S.A.V.E...

Shangri-La
I loved watching the subbed version of Shangri-La, definitely one of my favorite anime's. Since I like dubs more than subs, I had to get this. I am loving it, there are some voice differences that I think they could have chosen different people, but it's still great.

Opening Day Disaster [HD]

Still excellent...
Still love this show, and it's still keeping pace with the first two seasons. Ballard, Jesse, Angie, etc. are quite the characters, and as one episode ends, you simply can't wait to get into the next one.

We literally have watched this entire series five or six episodes at a time...and I'm looking forward to re-watching it as "background noise" when doing mundane tasks about the house, etc.

It's very good.

Of course, everything that I said about the first season is true here, as well...and more:

Visited this place this past summer (2013) and was amazed at how awesome of an establishment it is. To call it simply a "bar" is a gross understatement. It's both fascinating and a photographer's dream.

This visit (and my father...who's an avid fan), of course, turned me on to the show...which is equally cool. The characters are interesting to say the least, and it provides a good behind-the-scenes look at both the...

Ben 10: Season 4

Ben 10- Season Four...The Series Finale....
We find out in Season 4 that there are alot of alien races out there that are fighting one another for control of the galaxy. As we all know, there is one 10 year old kid that ain't going to let that happen and that is Ben Tennyson. Season Four opens up with Ben living out a perfect day, perhaps too perfect-I'm afraid- as he soon discovers and things escalate from there. While most of the episodes walk a familiar ground, the plot thickens more as you soon discover before the Season is over. Team Tennyson may be no more. As for extras, we are given three alternate versions of the Ben 10 Secret of the Omnitrix movie. While each version has minor changes(different heroes used to combat the enemy, a pop up trivia version for fans, etc), they are still worth watching. I'm glad Cartoon Network included this movie with Season Four(it makes one less thing I have to buy in order to have the complete Ben 10 Collection). Other than that, nothing much to speak of.

While I'm older than...

Great buy!
My grandson is a huge Ben 10 fan. This particular two-disc set has both episodes and a full length movie. It was a big hit with my grandson, and I know we will watch it over and over.

Ben To the End !
This is the fourth and final season of "Ben 10" right before the new "Alien Force" series that takes place five years later. (Of course, the movie "Race Against Time" takes place in between, but that's besides the point.)

Season four has ten terrific episodes PLUS the original movie "Secret of the Omnitrix" with three different openings plus the bonus trivia version as well as some deleted scenes ! These episodes in this set include:

"Divided We Stand" - Once again, the dastardly Dr. Animo returns to get revenge on Ben. Ben must stop him again with a new alien hero: Ditto !

"Don't Drink the Water" - Ben and Grandpa Max accidentally drink water from the legendary Fountain of Youth. Now Gwen has to deal with a young Max and an infantile Ben.

"Ken 10" - Fast-forward into the distant future where the adult Ben 10,000 gives his son Kenny his very own Omnitrix. But like his father, Kenny has much to learn on how it's used.

NCIS: Los Angeles - The Third Season

Teamwork...
In its strong third season, NCIS-Los Angeles continues to capitalize on its excellent cast, as the NCIS LA-based Office of Special Projects conducts undercover operations against terrorists, spies, arms-dealers, transnational criminals and other threats to the Department of the Navy.

Linda Hunt returns as diminutive and mysterious Operations Manager Hetty Lange, who continues to overawe the agents each week. The original superb buddy team of Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J as agents G. Callen and Sam Hanna is joined by a second field team, consisting of Agent Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) and LAPD detective Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), who are still working on their often hilarious love-hate relationship. Computer geeks Eric Beale (Barrett Foa) and Nell Jones (Renee Smith) form a third team. The mysterious Nell seems to have an additional hush-hush role as cat's paw for Hetty, and will materialize on at least one mission brandishing a firearm with unexpected skill...

Great Show but poor Quality set
So as much as I love the show, I have to give this set a 1 star review. I got two different versions of this set 1 from amazon and 1 from Best Buy. Both sets the video quality was absolutely awful. You could see pixels everywhere, and the colors were over-saturated. Poor LL Cool J looked like a red muppet version of himself. I don't understand what happened here. I own all of the NCIS seasons and the first 2 NCIS: LA seasons and have never had an issues. I tested both of these sets on 2 different tv's 2 different bluray playeers and a dvd player, all with the same issue. And have no other issues with any other dvd I try. Was very disappointed. I have also noticed that Best Buy no longer carries this set and cannot order it. They checked when I returned my copy. It is also not available at Wal-Mart or Target either. Which leaves me to believe that they have found this defect as well and will not carry it. So potential buyers beware. For now I will have a hole in my collection while I...

Ryder, Mitch - Live At Rockpalast

DVD IS DAMAGED
THE DVD had scratches on it and doesnt play properly.. It stalls on some tracks in the middle of the program. I have to manually advance it because the disk came damaged.

I am going to throw it out. It is disappointing.

Mitch Ryder rocks.
Attention, attention, attention. Those fans of Mitch Ryder Should take the time To view. Mitch Ryder live at the rock Palast DVD. Mitch Ryder is a very talented emotional Vocalist. His band of musicians were very impressive. Mitch Ryder delivers musical passion. View this DVD if you dare. Good day to all.

The Fall & Recovery of Mitch Ryder
The first of the 2 concerts in 1979 depicted a Mitch Ryder with a serious drinking problem and doubtful future. Fortunately the audience is German and didn't appreciate how badly Mitch was slurring. Mitch's attempts to engage the audience were pathetic and even the camera started avoiding him. Sad. Thank god the band of young german rockers smoked and Mitch somehow stayed on key. The 2004 concert is more sophisticated with a stone sober Mitch and older seasoned musicians. The first concert was blues-ROCK (emphasis on Rock) while the 2nd is BLUES-rock (emphasis on Blues). My only complaint is that the camerman appears to have a love affair with the American guitarist Robert Gillespie while giving the German guitarist Heiner Witte (same guitarist from the 1979 concert) a lot less attention despite the fact Witte is clearly the more versatile musician.

WordWorld: To the Rescue

Gotta Love WordWorld
I love the way WordWorld intentionally teaches literacy without my 3 year old (now 4 year old) realizing that they are intentionally teaching literacy. He thinks it is pure fun to watch, and is really happy with himself when he can recognize and sometimes even spell new words. On this DVD, there are 4 episodes....1. Fire Fighters to the Rescue 2. Duck Saves Spider"s Web 3. The Best Nest and 4. Caterpillar Gets a Home. Each episode appeals to a youngster's sense of humor!

As always, love word world!
This, in typical word world fashion teaches kids about spelling and sounding out words in a fun way. It's also not one of those shows that make parents want to put on headphones and read a book! I highly recommend word world!

Great for kids
As always this is a great learning video for children. My grandson loves it. it is refreshing to have something intelligent for kids to watch

Shakugan no Shana: Season One (Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Surprisingly Good
The story line has been done before. High school boy meets a girl with special powers. Even though this theme has been rehashed over and over; this series is surprisingly good. Yuji is a normal guy who happens to run into the flame haze, Shana. Shana fights a never ending battle with beings from a parallel dimension that eat human souls. The story is about the bond of their friendship and their fight to save the world. There are a lot of things about this anime to like. The animation is really good, the voice acting is good and the characters are interesting. Each episode keeps you wanting to keep watching more. As the relationships between the characters grows stronger the show becomes more captivating. I haven't watched the DVD version, but the Blu-ray version is good; not the best Blu-ray quality I've seen; but the picture is clear and the colors are vivid. The worst part about the show is that I have to wait to see the 2nd season. I really liked Shakugan no Shana and I'm looking...

(3.5 stars) A fun, action-packed anime series with a teenage love story!
In 2002, Yashichiro Takahashi and illustrator Noizi Ito created the Japanese light novel series "Shana".

Published by ASCII Media Works from 2002 through 2011, the light novel series would receive two manga adaptations serialized in "Dengeki Daioh" and "Dengeki Maioh" and in 2005-2006, a PS2 and Nintendo DS video game and would also receive an anime series adaptation by J.C. Staff. A second season titled "Shakugan no Shana Second" was aired in 2007-2008, followed by a four-episode OVA in 2009-2010 and most recently, a third season titled "Shakugan no Shana Final" airing in 2011-2012.

VIDEO:

It's important to note that "Shakugan no Shana" season one is an anime series made back in 2005-2006. So, this is essentially an upconverted anime series. While watching on DVD, for most people, picture quality would look good but on Blu-ray, while the anime series is colorful and vibrant at times, it's also a bit soft and has banding issues. It's not the best...

Amazing!
Shakugan no Shana is by far, my favorite anime series. While it does have some stiff competition from a few others, this series has always knocked it out of the park.

As many others have said, the new voice English actors in S2 can throw you for a loop; but I prefer to not dwell on something so petty. The series is wonderful regardless and while I know the end of S3 was the appropriate place to stop the series, I am still saddened to see it end.

The Molotov Cocktail Episode [HD]

Where the rat at?
"Rat B*stards" is an American reality show. Or is it surreality? There's no way this is based on a true story, not even freely. I hope...

Rigger (a.k.a. the Mad Scientist of the Bayou), Squirrel, Shane and a few others are gun-touting, bearded, crazy cowboys with heavy Southern accents. Or "Louisiana patriots", as the network's series presentation would have it. Their mission: to exterminate the swamp rats of the Louisiana wetlands by any means necessary. Their motto: "If you can't beat 'em, burn 'em!"

Yes, swamp rats. Apparently, the cuddly, furry and sweet little nutria is a pest species in the United States. Besides, the rats tried to kill Squirrel's dog 40 years ago, so he takes it kind of personally. The extermination team roams the swamps with semi-automatic rifles, Molotov cocktails and even modern GPS equipment. It seems no extermination method is unorthodox enough. At one point, Rigger tries to torch an entire island to get rid of the rat infestation...

Maigret - Set 4

Utterly Brilliant Series
The discovery of the Bruno Cremer Maigrets is for me the great event of the last several years in terms of filmed "policiers", and this applies to all four sets issued to date by MHZ. One should not go to them for gore (there is none) or violence (there is very little, and what there is, is tame by modern standards). What does reward the viewer are fascinating, original plots (thanks to author Georges Simenon and those who so expertly adapted his novels for television); a wonderfully engaging and consistent undertaking of the title role by Bruno Cremer (who has a normal, loving and low-key relationship with his infrequently appearing spouse, so there is none of the soap-operatic personal angst which so greatly mars many other policiers); consistently strong acting across the board, with occasional standout performances by guest actors from the French stage and cinema; and, most importantly for me, wonderful and entirely credible depictions of how the French interacted with each...

Excellent
I love this series. It helps in learning the French language as well as being entertaining. I would highly recommend this series to all sleuth fans!

Totally meet my expectations. I only have 2 more cd's to buy to complete my Maigret collection. Too bad there are no more after No. 9.

NCIS: The Complete Ninth Season

Still Going Strong...
"NCIS" returns for a ninth season as network television's highest ranked drama, featuring its terrific blend of criminal case-of-the-week excitement and the equally entertaining interaction among the members of a well-chosen cast. Mark Harmon returns as crusty Senior Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, still feuding with his boss, the Director of NCIS, and still closely managing his team, who he treats as a second family.

As the new season opens, Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), on special assignment for a new "Sec-Nav", searches for a supposed traitor within the ranks of NCIS. Tony barely survives the assignment, leaving behind an unsolved mystery and doubts about the relationship between the new Secretary of the Navy and Director Vance (Rocky Carroll). The mystery, and Tony's assailant, will eventually resurface, while the assignment will haunt Tony, causing him to reexamine his career and life (and yes, his relationship with Ziva). Gibbs will have his own appointment...

NCIS Seasonal DVDs
I've been a fan of this show since the first episode; & I have not been disappointed ever with the DVD collections that have followed from it. Production standards are high and bonus material is excellent. I never hesitate to preorder the next season's DVDs as soon as possible. I just realized I'm reviewing season 9 which hasn't even finished or shipped (I have preordered it!) yet. My comments stand for all 8 seasons so far; and I am confident that they will hold true for this one as well.

NCIS Season started slow but strengthened
It's NCIS and not the LA version.
Writing a review for a show such as this is difficult because it has to be clear without spoiling the plots by giving too much detail.
Suffice it to say that if you have enjoyed NCIS in the past, this season as a whole will not dissapoint.

There's been little bad to say about the series in past years, but the first episodes of this season left a little to be desired in the terms of credibility. The overall impression was that the screenwriters were looking to find their feet and unsure exactly how to do that, but episode three the characters had begun again to settle back into the human dynamics and interpersonal cameraderie that has made this series an ongoing hit for so many years.

After the midpoint of the season the episodes really have a tendancy to go from strength to strength and pull the veiwer along just like in previous years as each builds upon the case before and allows full involvement with the unfolding...

NCIS: Seasons 1-9

Christmas Gift
This was a gift to my mother for Christmas and it went over so well. We try to watch the re-run episodes daily but always seem to either catch the one we already seen several times or they are out of order. I figured to put a stop to that I would get all 9 seasons so that we can catch up before getting season 10. The gift was a big hit and my mom actually shed a tear when she opened the gift. NCIS rocks and I can't wait to be all caught up.

Customer Service Satisfaction with Seller
I became quickly engrossed in NCIS when watching some of the marathon's on USA. However, I like to know the story from start to finish, so I purchased the 9 available seasons. I was a little hesitant about purchasing a product knowing I would not be able to view each DVD in a short period of time, thus worrying what might happen if I had issues at any time. When I began season 5, I had issues with one of the DVDs, pixalation and breaking up. However, I contacted the seller through Amazon's secure process and the seller immediately replaced the item! I am now on season 7 and am no longer worried about whether any issues I might have will be resolved. I want to thank the seller for providing true stellar customer service when I needed it! I hope the remaining DVDs work great but if they don't, I know I can reach out for a replacement without any issues. EXCELLENT service!

Price was Right and MAN I love whatching these commercial free!
I really like this show but since I bought the DVD's I LOVE IT! Episodes in order and as the subplots are written that's a critical thing. The price was very reasonable and came in very well packaged. I will enjoy these for a very long time!

Hatfields & Mccoys: An American Feud

A Very Top-Level Overview of the Feud
If you know nothing about the Hatfield & McCoy Feud this video is a nice introduction. It is well produced and reasonably accurate. They interview several descendents of the original families plus the best-known authors of books on the subject. There's not a lot of detail though. If you really want to understand the relationships between the families, the geography of the region and the political situation you'll need to do quite a bit of additional reading and study.

Begins with Confusion but Improves
This is not one of the Biography Channel's better efforts, especially in the beginning, but it does improve. The confusion at the beginning comes from the fact that a synopsis of the entire feud is presented in just a few minutes. After that, the progression of the feud is chronicled. The chronicling is done fairly well. The problem is that it is not readily apparent that the first part has ended and the second has begun. This leads to a bit of confusion, at least in me, as to what was actually happening. When it does become apparent, though, it is a quality program, though not the most interesting.

The feud took place shortly after the Civil War. It was not the worst such event to happen in the area but it was the one that captured the imagination of the press. From these events, we get our modern stereotypes of the hillbilly hicks. To a great degree, the image was the construction of the press. Some things never change.

Good
I wanted to see this before I watched the movie. I found it to be honest about these two families.....sad as it is.

Masterpice Classic: Anna Karenina, Part 1

Anna Karenina
This is possibly the best romance story ever told. Many books and movies have wove some element of this story because it is so great. If you have read the book (many pages!) this movie stays very much true to the book. The book tells of the great beauty of Anna, so much so that everyone who sees her, are struck with that beauty. That's a tough act to follow, maybe Elizabeth Taylor could have pulled it off. The actoriss in this story is very talented, and she is beautiful, maybe not Anna Karenina beautiful, but IMHO her talent pulls it off. And sure, if you have never been in nuorotic crazy love, the movie may be lost on you. The filming and sets are well done, actors are excellent. Masterpice Theater always does a "master" job. I just finished reading Anna Karenina again (read it many years ago) when I heard there was a new movie released on it. I checked Amazon Prime to see if they had at least one of the old versions of "Anna", and found this. "Anna" has done many times, and I think...

Pretty good but still leaves some to be desired
This version fills in a lot more detail than others about the relationship between Anna and Vronsky, as well as the "mirror image" relationship of Kitty and Levin. Anna and Vronsky's relationship is portrayed in a very positive light throughout most of the film, so that I wound up feeling compassion rather than disgust for Anna - even though it is her own unwillingness to accept that her decisions have a cost that ultimately leads to her throwing herself under a train. It also portrayed her husband Karenin in a repulsive way, so that the compassion he really deserves is harder to feel.

Despite the masterfully protagonistic portrayal of Anna, her character is ultimately impossible to like or respect. She never says she's sorry except to manipulate a situation, and up to the end is oblivious to anyone's pain or sacrifice but her own. I do like Vronsky in almost every version, and in this one particularly he is portrayed as being clearly, sincerely, exclusively, permanently in...

Romantically Complicated
A love-hate involvement between an alluring Anna who is married and a very tempting Vronsky. Loaded with social dispute and things left unsaid.

Adventure Time It Came From the Nightosphere

Surprise Surprise, No Season 1 & 2 DVD yet!
I hate to say I told you so but...

Again, Cartoon Network is fleecing you of your hard earned dollars trying to sell Adventure Time fans another useless random selection of episodes. Last time it was under the guise of "testing the waters" for season DVD interest. Apparently that was a load of lies.

At this point in time we COULD be buying Season 1 & 2 of this amazing show but instead we only have two random collections.
Many of us hardcore fans are getting a little annoyed at this point. Please Cartoon Network, Frederator Studios & Warner Bros hear our cry of dislike.

I love Adventure time, Why won't you sell me full seasons???

EDIT (April 2012):
User Mushi has notified me that Season 1 is on the way: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007Q0JJHC

Nope, not falling for it.
I'm not buying ANY of the Adventure Time DVDs unless I know I'm getting entire seasons.

KNOW YOUR DEMOGRAPHIC. This show is primarily enjoyed by high school and college students who would rather have the entire season(s) of a program than a few episodes. Also, repeats? Not okay.

Not buying this or any of the Adventure Time DVDs until some sort of proper season collection is out. I don't wanna waste my money.

at this point you need full seasons...
It is ridiculous that again there is another random selection of episodes from this fantastic show. its not even that the collections arent full seasons...you just are not listening to fans of the show. if you go on the message board on cartoonnetwork.com fans of the show list their favorite episodes and guess which ones are not on the dvd...foolish. if you wont listen to your fans who are you listening to? this collection is missing among others: "what was missing", "fiona and cake", and many many other fan favorites. please cartoon network stop showing us your favorites and give us full seasons!

Seer, Gilligan

Better than season one!
I've just finished watching the first side of disk one(there are three two sided disks just as in season one.) which contains the first six episodes of season two plus creator Sherwood Schwartz commentating on the episode "The Little Dictator". The color is fantastic as is the sound. The picture is so clear that you'd swear you were watching the shows in their original run. Much clearer and much more colorful than the syndicated television versions, and best of all, UNEDITED! syndication chops off probably 5 to 8 minutes of each episode. Unfortuneatley, there isn't much for bonus features, but just having each episode unedited in great color and clarity is more than enough, with a great price to boot.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
The episode where Gilligan dreams that he is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde actually would be number 81 "And Then There Were None". Such it will be featured on the upcoming DVD set featuring the complete third season. There is nothing missing here at all. The 32 original episodes from the show's second year are there in all their technicolorical glory!

Just Sit Right Back And You'll Hear A Tale
The first thing that struck me while watching "Gilligan's Island" on DVD was the sharpness of the images and the vibrancy of the colors. After a hit and miss first season, the castaways really came into their own in the second season. For an uncharted, deserted island, they had an amazing number of visitors. The island was visited by four native tribesmen, an exiled dictator, two Russian cosmonauts, a sixties rock group called the Mosquitoes, female tycoon Erika Tiffany Smith, a robot, a lion, a Mr. Howell impostor, a secret agent dressed up as a ghost, and a mad scientist. The episode with the mad scientist is my favorite.

Dr. Boris Balinkoff (Vito Scotti) takes the castaways to his island castle where, with the help of Igor (Mike Mazurki), they perform experiments on them. The Doctor takes the brain of one person and puts it into the body of another person. He makes a mistake by putting Ginger's brain into Igor's body, because Igor breaks the chains holding the...
