A Gloriously Aburdist Frolic
If your criterion for what makes a great cartoon is quite simply that it should be funny, this may well be the greatest cartoon to come along in years. Adventure Time may have layers and depths to stagger the imagination of even the hardest core animation fan. Regular Show may have laid back slacker cool oozing from every pore. But Gumball is just plain funny. Really funny. I haven't laughed so hard at a cartoon since the original Williams Street [adult swim] lineup. Yet unlike the Williams Street cartoons, Gumball is a show that few parents could possibly object to as suitable children's viewing.
If you're looking for a more concrete review, here goes: The Amazing World of Gumball is centred around the Watterson family, all of whom are drawn as fairly traditional anthropomorphic cartoon animals;- albeit with a very strong Japanese...
Would like full seasons, but it'll be just fine
As far as we know, this DVD is going to have people crapping about how this isn't a full season. Apparantly, a Cartoon Network show has to run for 4 to 5 years and memetic fandom for a full season release. For example, it took two DVD compilations for Adventure Time to get a full season one DVD. This may be the same case with Regular Show and The Amazing World of Gumball.
Anyway, let's start off with this DVD.
First of all, this has got to be the most creative show ever on Cartoon Network, spanning actors from both the US and UK and combining pretty much everything; CGI, puppets, live action, 2D, holy crap! The jokes also sometimes homage to pop culture; something some shows don't have usually. Appears that TAWoG, RS and AT are the only good shows left on CN.
The episodes on the DVD are unannounced, but judging from the title of this DVD, I believe "The DVD" will be first.
I have to admit, I would love to see a full season, but saying junk...
Fun DVD for kids!
I purchased this DVD for my 10 year old son. He loves the Amazing World of Gumball! I like the diverse dimensions of characters - makes it different from all the other shows out there. The only thing my son didn't like was that there were no newer episodes on the DVD. We'll just have to wait until the next one comes out. =)
