Fantastic Program, poor format
This has been the summer of the Beach Boys for me. I have re-acquainted myself with their music, they have always seemed to be my first love. I got to see them in concert and was blown away by how powerful an experience it was, and have been listening to them nonstop. It is fitting then, that this should arrive at my door during the last week of summer, to sort of bookend the experience.

This show chronicles the creation of the band and features interviews, live footage, and behind the scenes looks at the production of their new album. It offers a very simplistic view of the band, there is no mention of the internal strife, lawsuits, breakdowns, etc. This is about the Boys and the music they make. It serves its purpose of showing us just how talented they are and have always been, and it truly is a joy to watch. For me, the highlight was the newly found footage of the sessions that gave us the greatest pop song ever recorded, "Good Vibrations".

better than nothing
As another reviewer said, this is little more than an "advertisement" to let people know "the beach boys have reunited". What you get almost defies categorization. We open with a glimpse of a recent concert, then a group interview where the Beach Boys discuss the reunion, then reflect on their past. From there, this is almost a documentary of the history of the band. But not quite. There are discussions of the formation of the band, their first recordings, a few partial vintage TV clips, chat about the progression of the band to California girls and Pet sounds, recently discovered original footage of the band recording Good vibrations, and then we wrap it up with another glimpse of a recent concert. If you didn't know any better, this would seem the imply that the band broke up in 1966, and reunited in 2012.

Some of the discussion is interesting. But the problem is, it's too short for what it is. Actually, I'm not quite sure what it is. It's not a complete...
